A long time ago, in a state far, far away, I was running conventions for Armstrong Cork Company. After Neil Armstrong made his historic moon walk, he began a NASA promotional/speaking circuit. We were lucky enough to fit into his schedule so he agreed to speak at our big convention. Backstage with Mr. Armstrong, waiting to go out and introduce him, I asked what was going through his mind when the countdown reached ten seconds. He said, “Frankly, Tom, what was going through my mind was that I was strapped into a rocket ship that was built by the lowest bidder.” I asked him the same question on stage and he got the biggest laugh that auditorium had ever heard. Mr. Armstrong was a real hero and a nice man. Rest in peace!
